Frequently Asked Questions

What is xml element <lastmod> ?

This store the date on which the URL was changed, last time. The Date format must conform to the W3C DATETIME. The date must be written in the format YYYY-MM-DD: hour, minutes and seconds can be added too. This is an optional tag for sitemap.xml file. [Including the last modified date is supposed to save the SE the trouble of indexing a page that hasn't changed. The SE's are going to check the date stamp returned from the server to see if the file has been been edited, if not, they won't spider it.] [This value is optional. If is not included, Google will consider the value of the Change Frequency attribute if it exists, and use whatever method was used previously to determine whether or not to fetch a page.]
